Toryn Callagham Colin-ford-gallery

Toryn Callagham FPcGmnb
Full Name: Cabhan [kav-an] Toryn Callagham
Goes by: Toryn, for ease; his parents and siblings call him by his real name, though.

Age: 21
Birthdate: 5 Jan

Gender: Male
Sexual Alignment: Heterosexual

Toryn Callagham PhgudjJ
Hair colour and style: Dark blond, with the hair closest to the roots being darker; in certain light it can appear blond.

Eye colour: A shade of grey that appears almost brown when in the shadows, but obviously light grey when in the light

Height: Five foot eight
Body type: Slightly on the bigger side (he has big bones) he is by no means fat; nor, however, is he particularly fit.

Dress sense: Casual; he does pay attention to what he buys, but when he dresses in the morning he tends to throw whatever on. His wardrobe consists mostly of hoodies and t-shirts, and jeans

Birthmarks: None that are obvious (a tiny circular one on his left hip no larger than half a centimetre)
Scars: Just the average childhood ones from running around and going to places he shouldn't have been

Etcs: None.

Likes: (min 3)
- Stories, both fiction and non; he loves listening to or reading about tales, especially adventure or mystery.

- Meeting new people, although he's an ambivert and prefers small, one on one gatherings versus large crowds (he tends to shy away from talking with anyone in situations like this).

- Animals

- Mythology (greek, in particular)

- Video games

- Sweets and chocolate

- Making jokes; laughing.

- Maths, although he doesn’t understand it; he finds the challenge of solving questions to be enjoyable.

Dislikes: (min 3)
- Dishonesty or anyone lying. He tends to believe that the best results come from truth; even white lies are lies, and should be avoided. That isn't to say he doesn't ever lie (he does, although rarely); he just doesn't like it.

- Violence, of any kind.

- Not being able to help someone in need; he's got somewhat of a saviour complex (see negative traits)

- Discrimination

- Injustice

- Bitter things, like dark chocolate or coffee.

- Science (as much as he admires his parents, he can’t bring himself to enjoy it)

- Playing musical instruments (he’s not musically inclined)

- Sports (he’s more arts inclined)

Strengths (min 3)
- Patience; he's incredibly patient with everyone.

- He's got quite a decent set of instincts, although he's still learning to follow his gut. He can be somewhat naive and innocent -- he does, after all, believe that the world is, at its core, good -- but he's sharper than most give him credit for.

- Planning/list creating.

- Organising, be it tasks or people or… anything, really.

- Making friends.

- Explaining things to people/teaching, although only if he understands it himself.

Weaknesses: (min 3)
- Sweet shops.

- Bookshops.

- A good book, or story, be it verbal or not.

- Someone in need.

- Maths; he enjoys the intellectual stimulus but he's bad at it -- really, really bad.

- Criticism; he's somewhat sensitive, although he'd never show it to anyone not close to him.

Positive Traits (min 3)
- Hard working; knowing he's not the best at everything, and for what he’s weak in, he works his butt off to make up for it.

- Tolerant; he isn't the kind to pick and choose friends based off similar interests. As long as one doesn't backstab him or is outright mean, he doesn't mind being friends.

- Doesn't give up easily; Toryn isn't a quitter.

- Stable; he isn't one who is easily swayed by emotions or outward circumstances.

- Has a good head on his shoulders; he isn't impulsive and thinks things through before doing anything.

- Kindhearted; he's the type to help anyone in need, be it a stranger or the guy who just insulted him.

- Genuine; he doesn't ever fake things. What you see is what you get with Toryn, which is both good and bad.

Negative Traits (min 3)
- Honest to a fault.

- Uncompromising in what he believes to be right; while he does listen to the opposing side, it's usually done so that he can counter them.

- Can be somewhat condescending

- He's bad at improvising; he'd rather plan

- Slightly OCD when it comes to his bookshelf and workspaces; he gets annoyed if they're touched or toyed with

- Will forgive once, forgive twice, and then a third time -- but if you cross him again after that, he will wash his hands clean of you; he doesn't give people more than a few chances, and while this could be said to be a positive trait, consider that even if one does a complete turnabout and becomes a saint, he still won't forgive you.

- He has somewhat of a saviour complex, and wants to help everyone and anyone, whether they want to be helped or not.

He doesn’t get the whole ‘blood supremacy’ thing. Other than that, magic is simply part of who he is, and he is somewhat indifferent to it.

Interestingly enough, Cabhan is well suited for non-verbal magic.

Toryn Callagham 4uLzEID

Born on a beautiful Thursday morning, at the very first snowfall the town had seen in a few years, Cabhan was somewhat of a miracle child. Of course, Daimhin had also been a miracle child; the couple had been told by numerous doctors that they were unable to have children of their own some years back. He doesn’t remember much of his life before three, only that they grew up in a small apartment unit that didn’t have much space. He sort of recalls the move to Ventry, but only in the occasional flash of detail, and he doesn’t much care about that; he loves Ventry.

Cabhan grew up a weird child, not fully fitting in with anyone; even as a child, he would say or do odd things. However, he was still showered with love and acceptance by his parents, older brother, and neighbours. In such a small town, differences were very quickly forgotten and ignored. Therefore, despite the occasional odd things happening with and around Cabhan, he had friends.

When he was eight, his dog died, ran over by someone passing by the town who disobeyed the traffic laws. When he found out, in a fit of rage, he went to the trailer park where said man was staying and, without meaning to, accidentally causing a garden gnome on the window of the caravan to explode.

Nobody was injured and the man had been arrested by local police under the suspicions of having explosive materials in his caravan. Cabhan’s insistence that he had been the one to explode it ‘with his mind’ had been dismissed as make belief, since he’d always been an imaginative boy. Investigations found that the man had no previous history of anything illegal, and police were forced to let him go. He left town immediately, claiming it was full of witchcraft.

Until this day, people in the town that had been around during this period still talk about the crazy man who had blamed an eight year old of magic, a fact that only seven people know aren’t true.

That very evening, an odd pair of people wearing robes found their way into the Callagham’s residence, where all five members of the household -- and their four dogs, two cats, and the sickly lamb Caerul had been warming by the fireplace -- were told about the Wizarding world, and Cabhan discovered that he wasn’t weird -- he was simply in the wrong place. In the Wizarding world, he was told, he would fit right in. Told that a wizarding school existed and that he might attend it, Cabhan suddenly realised there was more to life than a small town, and adventure called him for the first time in his life.

When the letter for Hogwarts came at the age of 11, Cabhan was beyond ecstatic. Accompanied by someone from the ministry of magic (“That’s a thing?” he’d asked his parents, who’d merely shrugged. While they accepted and loved Cabhan, it was still confusing for them, to say the least.) he went to Diagon Alley (“Hey, did you ever realise it’s just ‘diagonally’ split into two? What’s with that?” he’d asked, but received no satisfactory answer.) to buy supplies for school.

Sorted into a house with yellow and black for colours (yellow had always been one of his favourite colours, since it reminded him of both sunflowers and a meadow of wheat, two things he loved) he wouldn’t learn the four names until a few weeks later, with them being so foreign to him. Still, he loved being in Hufflepuff, what with the friendly people and the access to the kitchen. It was a warm common room, too, something he appreciated. Yet, as he realised people had difficulty pronouncing his name, since his parents had gone with more traditional (read: old) names that hardly anybody knew, he decided to go by his middle name. Therefore, while he has no issues with Cabhan, the majority of his friends and Professors in Hogwarts call him Toryn.

The first year flew by in a blur of lessons and magic and friends, overwhelming him in the best possible way as he did his best to learn the lingo and lessons; his first summer back he’d spent most of his time recounting tales to his siblings and parents about what he did, only just able to remember not to actually try and perform spells. Sworn to secrecy, he hated having to lie to his friends, but he still understood the need to not cause mass panic -- which was what revealing he had a wand and could make things float or blow up would do -- and therefore everyone in town was told he’d been selected to join a selective private boarding school.

The next year at Hogwarts was more familiar and he soon settled down nicely into routine, learning which classes he enjoyed (mostly all) and which he didn’t (divination; he didn’t like the idea of messing with fate) as well as which he had a particular favour for.

It became evident in his third year that he had a knack for non-verbal spells, something that came as a surprise for both him and his friends; he’d never been the most powerful wizard.

At the end of his third year, he got into a verbal fight with one Stephanie Richardson; she was the youngest daughter in a Pureblood family and spoilt with a capital ‘S’. She always wanted things her way, and while they’d been paired up for one class, he didn’t want anything to do with her, not liking her views or her stance on the whole blood thing. He said as much to her, and she’d stormed off.

When he came back for his fourth year, he was in for a surprise -- it seemed that Stephanie had taken his words to heart and actually put thought to his statements. Not only that, but she’d changed, too, having reached her own conclusions that matched what he’d been trying to tell her all along. He became one of her closest friends during this time, somehow managing to muster up his courage towards the end of their fourth year and asking her out, his emotions having grown from ‘she’s a friend’ to ‘I want to be her boyfriend’. To his utmost surprise, she agreed, and the pair became an item.

Caerul and Mairead don’t have that much of an interesting life story. Growing up as neighbours a small Gaeltacht village in County Kerry, Ireland called ‘Ventry’ (population ~620) they attended the same (and only) primary school, they quickly became best friends. When they finished school, they and their gang of friends decided to attend the same university in Galway. They both opted for the same course, studying Medicine.

The trials of their chosen course pushed them together even more and, two years into their course, on a night they were both staying up in the library doing their assignments, Caerul asked Mairead out. To his surprise, she accepted, and they began dating a week later -- when they next had free time to actually go out for dinner. The rest, as they say, is history; Caerul and Mairead waited until they finished studies before they got married, meaning they’d been together six years at that point.

When they were 28, they took a 6 month gap to get married, go on their honeymoon, and enjoy each other before starting their surgical residency, which they opted to do at the same hospital in London. They were there for 4 years before they left, having both received job offers at separate hospitals for full-time, well-paying jobs. For 3 years they worked in different cities, separated for what was probably the first time; still, they made it work, their love surviving the miles and lonely nights.

It was during Mairead’s fourth year that she got an offer for the same hospital as her husband; while it was offering her less pay, she took it without a second’s thought, needing to be with him more than she wanted money. Besides, they already had saved up a considerable amount. Together once again, the pair decided to try for a baby, but after many attempts and no results, they paid a visit to a doctor, who gave them the grave news that it would be almost impossible for them to conceive.

Heartbroken, they debated adopting, but came to the conclusion that they didn’t want children -- they wanted children of their own, and as such, kept trying. It was only 5 years later, at the age of 39, did Mairead fall pregnant, much to their surprise; it was a risky age to give birth, with a high miscarriage rate. Still, just shy of nine months later, Mairead gave birth to Daimhim, who was slightly small but healthy in every aspect. Their joy was beyond anything they could have imagined and they both took off work for a short while to raise her.

To the utmost surprise, two years later, just as Mairead was about to start work again (Caerul had started six months before this) she missed three periods in a row and tested positive yet again. This time, they named their baby Cabhan. The following year, the Callaghams received their last surprise as Mairead fell pregnant and delivered their last -- and healthy -- child, Eoghan.

By this point, Mairead had retired, childbirth and motherhood leaving her too exhausted to operate, leaving only Caerul as the breadmaker of the family. However, having saved their money quite carefully -- and having placed them rather well in certain stocks and investments -- the pair had more than enough money to live comfortable. When Caerul retired a few years later, they all returned to Ventry to raise their children among old family and friends. Daimhim was 6, Cabhan was 4, and Eoghan was 3.

Mairead now volunteers for as a part-time kindergarten teacher, having always enjoyed working with children; and Caerul works part-time as a doctor, helping out during weekends or on-call, if there’s a need.
