Only You
by Mariah Berkeley-Benton
Do you know how to lose yourself,
but know just where you are?
Have you ever run for miles,
without moving very far?
Do you know how to stay in place,
yet wander far away?
To entertain, inside your head,
some alternate today?
Have you ever visited
several worlds at once?
Your body, mind, and soul
exist in different months?
Do you know what it’s like to hide
a world inside your mind?
A place you can escape to,
when this one is unkind?
Have you ever sat and stared
at not a thing at all?
Imagining a world in which
you wouldn't feel so small?
Have you ever been reminded
that no one understands
the lands that you've created
to run from life's demands?
Have you ever tried to share
the place to which you flee,
but then been forced to realize,
they could never truly see?
Have you ever seen so clearly,
you thought that it was true,
only to remember,
that it was only you?
