PostSubject: Arthur Bhuwakul   Thu Nov 23, 2017 5:11 pm

Full Name: Arthit Bhuwakul (อาทิตย์ ภูวกุล)
Goes by: Arthur

Gender: Male
Sexual Alignment: Panromantic demi-sexual

Hair colour and style: Straight, black, usually quite short and sometimes shaved on the sides.

Eye colour: Black

Height: 5’7”
Body type: Naturally slender; he isn’t concerned about keeping his figure, but as a young man it’s much easier.

Dress sense: It varies, though never anything fancier than a button-up and scarf unless the situation calls for it. Usually a hoodie or t-shirt and jeans if he thinks the colors match enough.

Birthmarks: N/A
Scars: A small scar on his arm

Etcs: Several ear piercings

Likes: (min 3)
- Animals, especially friendly ones and pets
- Plants and nature in general
- Drawing—even if he doesn’t take it seriously, he still enjoys it, sometimes doodling everywhere.
- Cooking, mostly because of his mom and her recipes, and everything available in the world that he hasn’t tried yet.

Dislikes: (min 3)
- Witnessing or causing pain
- Heights
- Being clueless/not knowing what to do or where to go
- Conflict stresses him out
- Anything explicitly related to death
- People mispronouncing his name

Strengths (min 3)
- Good at taking care of animals and plants
- In almost everything he does, he’s quite gentle, especially when he needs to be.
- He has a fairly solid memory but it's mostly geared toward directions, recipes, and how to take care of plants and animals.

Weaknesses: (min 3)
- Chocolate
- Too quiet for his own good—literally so.
- Heights make him panic intensely; even rooftops do.

Positive Traits (min 3)
- Even though he’s rather bad at talking, he still manages to care for people in other ways: making sure they eat properly, reminding them of things they have to do, offering an ear when he can handle it. He can’t really give advice, but he still likes to feel useful.
- Has an incredible appetite for learning and loves reaching into many different areas even if they’re unrelated, and is decent at applying knowledge in new ways.
- He finds it easy to be flexible in a lot of situations, especially if he’s aware of what’s going on and why something is changing.

Negative Traits (min 3)
- Arthur is horrible at talking to people, especially about his own problems.
- He really fails to take care of himself a lot of the time
- He feels incredible helpless if he doesn’t know something and ends up avoiding situations if he can’t figure them out.

Age: 16
Birthdate: August 27

Class: Superhero
Occupation: Student

Superpower: Illusion manipulation

Arthur is able to create illusions that are convincing enough to trick the average human, though the illusions are only auditory and visual unless there is some kind of trigger for them to spread to other senses—smell, and sometimes taste, but almost never touch. If a person were to try to touch an illusion, it would appear to dissipate much like smoke, only to reform if Arthur keeps it up.

He is capable of choosing between isolated illusions, appearing only for specific people within ten feet, or group illusions, which appear to anyone within direct eyesight. For the latter, however, different senses fail at different distances: if applicable, taste is only noticeable from one foot, and smell from within three feet, while sound persists for roughly fifteen feet, and sight for whoever is looking directly at it from any visible distance.

He, unfortunately, has not trained it very well, which can, on rare occasions, cause his power to turn in on itself and affect him directly. Typically this only occurred when Arthur was sick, similar to a fever dream, but after Daniel's death, it started happening during panic attacks, conjuring frighteningly vivid flashbacks and worsening his PTSD to an extreme degree.

At his most powerful point, Arthur will be able to create psychosomatic illusions that affect the subject(s) physically; though this will only be out of utter desperation and will be incredibly exhausting. He won't be capable of this until his mid-twenties or thirties, barring extreme panic in which it occurs for mere seconds and is near unnoticeable.

Arthur is always, always hesitant to use his powers, so much so that it is usually by accident that they're used. Seeing others in high places gives him intense nausea, and even going near edges, no matter how safe they are, is a major trigger for him and often induces panic attacks.

Trigger Warning: Suicide, intense scenes, panic attacks. Read at your own caution.

Arthur's father, Nick, was the son of two Thai immigrants, and a first generation hero. If he had had any other power, he would have flown entirely under the radar; but because of his ability, Nick made a rather significant impact, even befriending Caleb Walker, who was a classmate throughout high school. He did his best to fit in, to live up to his parents' expectations and take advantage of the opportunity they worked hard to give him. He met Lalisa, Art's mother, at a Thai Community Night his parents dragged him to. At first, they didn't particularly hit it off, but his parents encouraged further and eventually, they liked each other enough to get married.

After a good five years, Arthur was born, a healthy child, and three years later, his younger brother came along, also fairly healthy. He had, almost surprisingly, a normal childhood, full of present parents and a little brother to tease but have fun with. And at ten-years-old, after several years of just having friends at school because it was convenient, Arthur gained a friend much closer to his age. They weren't friends because of convenience or force, and it worked out magnificently well. The next few years were near unbelievably happy: he had decent control of his newly-discovered power, a friend he felt comfortable with, a happy family, a solid home.

Arthur was fourteen when that ideality slipped away with a jerk and a slide. Daniel, one of Arthur's closer friends, suffered the loss of his sister at the beginning of the school year and fell into a deep depression. He would hardly eat, skipped classes even after the time he was excused from school, wouldn't see any of his friends. A few weeks after she had died, Arthur finally found a moment in which it was just him and Daniel next to each other on the rooftop of their school. Art hadn't seen him for the entire time, and was just then realizing how unsettled and different Daniel seemed; his hands had shaken as if something were going to jump at him, but his eyes stared only at the edge of the roof. Arthur tried to ask him what was wrong, but every attempt was refused. Daniel had only begun speaking after a long silence, and even then it was off-putting. He talked of his sister, how she hadn't deserved to die, how it wasn't fair, but also unwanted details of how her body had looked afterward until suddenly Arthur was witness to Daniel's crazed rant.

Panic had set in and Art did what he knew: made illusions. Seeing his sister would calm Daniel down, right? It was sure to—maybe then he would be alright. Arthur did his best to conjure an image of her for her brother, and for a moment Daniel's speech faltered, then stopped. Arthur had taken a moment of relief, still keeping up the illusion—but as he opened his eyes, Daniel was walking toward the edge of the roof.

Arthur had panicked again and spoken through the illusion to get Daniel to stop, but nothing worked, he was getting closer to the edge he was on the raised ledge his foot was dangling over a five-story drop—and Arthur couldn't have stopped it. He had pushed Daniel off a mental edge and Daniel took that literally. Arthur could barely bring himself to look over the edge but promptly threw up at the sight below, scrambling back to the safer center of the roof. It was all his fault, he felt responsible for Daniel's death, even if he didn’t mean to, he didn’t mean to, he didn’t mean to

Arthur started having panic attacks, flashbacks, panicking even near high places, at the sight of people on rooftops. He made great efforts to hide everything, but his teachers, of course, took note of him running out in the middle of class, shaking half to death and another student always running after him. Some wrote it off as disrespectful, but others became concerned enough to involve Arthur's parents and called a parent-teacher meeting to explain what was likely happening. Throughout the meeting, Arthur tried his best to hide even deeper, but with one look from his mom, that failed entirely. Finally, it was out in the open, and Art was pulled from school—at first temporarily, but before long it became apparent he wouldn't be able to handle it for some time. His parents pulled him out for the rest of the year, gently placed him into therapy, and did their best to encourage him to open up and start recovering.

His parents recommended he get a service animal, and while the wait was rough, he finally got Mocha near the end of his first year of high school. People stared, mostly because no pets were allowed at school or in the dorms, with exception to service dogs, obviously. He could see people had questions they were hesitant to ask—some asked anyway, though he often refused to answer.

But even after two years, Art hasn't recovered. Therapy did him some good, but there is still guilt and fear buried deep in him, that which tugs on his nerves and ties up his tongue. Mocha can pull him back to the present, but there is still a long way to go for recovery.

Pets:
Name: Mocha
